People often ask us what our plans are for international expansion. We enjoy answering that is it somewhat like a love story: it cannot be explained – but it makes for a great story! Thanks to Édith Piaf for giving us the perfect answer!
Before becoming Presse Café franchisees, candidates are required to successfully complete a training program that lasts a few weeks. The goal of this program is to help future franchisees learn how to prepare all of exclusive recipes and discover all the facets of managing a Presse Café. And yes, our training program teaches franchisees how to tame the espresso machine!
We asked Nancy Kelendji, who is currently following the program, to give us an idea of her new adventure with Presse Café. What a story!
Our first week of training started on Tuesday. We began by preparing the Presse Café's special coffees. We started with the single- and double-shot espressos. That went off without a hitch. Then, we learned how to make a long espresso. Everything went well. Things got a little more complicated when learning how to make the perfect latte. After several tries, I can now make the fluffy foam!
The time came to practice making a cappuccino. First try: not so bad. Second try: a bit better. And then a client came up to the counter. She wanted a dry cappuccino. I eagerly jumped to it and started foaming the milk. Everything was going well and the milk foamed perfectly. The client watched me on the side of the counter, waiting for her coffee. Once the coffee was ready, I tried to turn off the steam wand-but instead, I increased the speed! Milk froth splattered all over my face, the cash register, espresso machine, and counter. The client burst out laughing and said "I think it's really dry now!"

In July, the Presse Café is craving fresh berries!
Whether its field strawberries, raspberries or blueberries, we cannot get enough of them. We want them in our yogurts, smoothies, sodas, muffins, fruit squares, salads and vinaigrettes! So many berries, so many possibilities!
Summer just wouldn't be the same without these mouth-watering jewels from here. After all, we all remember fondly those warm summer days, running in the fields and spending lazy afternoons berry picking. Ah...to go back in time....Luckily, with Presse Café's great berry dishes, you can savor a bit of your childhood!
Why are there so many lemons in our counters and so many products many from this sunny yellow fruit?
Because this summer, Presse Café is launching its new featured product! Each month, we will highlight an ingredient that we love and show you how it can be transformed into a mouthwatering meal or snack.
Our first featured ingredient for the summer: the lemon!
Why? Summer is synonymous with eating and drinking fresh. Fresh like a lemon. Fresh like lemonade. Fresh like crisp salads with oil and lemon. Fresh like lemon and poppy-seed muffins that just came out of the oven.
Lemons remind us of the sun and sunny days — something we'll promise you'll have each time you visit a Presse Café.
When you ask Jocelyne how long she has been working at the Presse Café (even though we cannot even remember when she wasn't there), she surprises herself by answering since 2004. "Ten years! Ten years that have gone by so fast – like a dream!"
Being the president's assistant is no small feat. But above all, Jocelyne is considered the office's non-official mom! "People sometimes say that I am Marcel's mom. Imagine being the mom of our president! I think I look more like his older sister – but not his mom! I am not that old," answers Jocelyne with a laugh.
Her definition of taking a breather? Reading, walking, gardening, and cooking.
Her biggest hit in the kitchen? Her shortbread biscuits. She's always ready to whip up four dozen biscuits to treat children that come to visit her. "The kids leave with a small box of cookies. The recipe is really easy...butter and sugar. Only good things! And it's homemade!" It's not surprising that kids almost harass their parents on a daily basis to visit Jocelyne again!
Her favorite color? Marine blue – because it is "chic".
When asked about her most memorable moments at the Presse Café in the last ten years, even though she is concerned about being "cheesy", she immediately replies that her fondest memories are when she sees all the company's franchisees brimming with hopes and dreams of building a successful Presse Café franchise.
Jocelyne is our president's assistant and the mom of both the office and two children of her own. Jocelyne always gets a standing ovation at our annual general meetings. She is the friendly voice on our answering machine and the editor of this blog. Jocelyne can do everything. With a smile, of course!
For all of you who work near the Quartier des Spectacles and are patrons of our Presse Café St-James, you have probably noticed several changes over the past while. Apart from the new arrivals of the season, you'll be seeing a lot more additions to the Presse Café St-James located on Ste-Catherine Street.
We'd like to welcome Ammar, our new franchisee, who is supported by his friendly team. Thanks to Ammar, you can truly feel a new vibe at the café. When asked why he decided to become a Presse Café franchisee, he didn't hesitate to respond:
"To live a dream that I have had for a long time!"
Ammar loves the location of the Presse Café, with its vibrant neighborhood and great people who work there.
If your are in the area, stop by and say hello to Ammar and the team! If you have even more time, try out the hot, homemade meals that Ammar's wife prepares. We love them!
Let's get snazzied up to celebrate the grand opening of the Presse Café Sorel! Patrick Filiatrault, a real-estate investor in Sorel, and his partner, Sophie Turcot, who is renowned for her stylish haircuts, are the proud franchisees of the new café!
What could possibly be missing in the lives of this entrepreneurial couple with 3 kids each (6 in all!)? Together, they answered:
"A place to welcome people. Lots of people!"
The couple has a ton of ideas to make their Presse Café a happening place, where people can meet both during the week, with colleagues, and on weekends, with friends and family. They also offer a catering service for all types of events.
Made with fresh ingredients filled will vitamins, our new Frappé Green is naturally sweet. Easy to prepare at home, we bet you never thought we would share the not-so-secret recipe of our new Presse Café signature drink: :
Place the following ingredients in a blender:
30 g baby spinach
300 ml pure orange juice
1 tsp chia seeds
4-6 ice cubes
Blend until smooth. Serve cold. Enjoy its mouth-watering taste and health benefits — guaranteed!
Originally from Persia, spinach reached Quebec many years ago. It features undisputed benefits. In addition to being rich in iron, as proven by Popeye, spinach is a rich source of magnesium, potassium and calcium. Low on calories and a high source of fiber, people have a hard time believing us when we tell them that spinach is also very tasty when added to smoothies. They say you have to see it to believe it. Yet in this case, we say tasting is believing! What a great and easy way to get a full serving of veggies!
>> If you forgot to buy your spinach this week or if you are in a hurry, stop by your Presse Café. We're here to help you keep healthy when you are on the go. Added bonus: we make each Frappé Green fresh every day for you!
